#35 - The Flow & The 8 Conditions To Enter

Find all the other episodes and ask me a question here.

Episode 35 - Flow, or "the Zone", that state of intense concentration and absorption in an activity, which is very often productive and particularly satisfying. This episode is dedicated to it.

Based on my reading of the book of the same name, I discuss Flow by defining it, before reviewing the 8 conditions and components that characterize it.

This is in order to better learn to recognize the beast when it arises in everyday life, but also and especially to better tame it and better act on our environment and shape the perception we have of it, so as to enter more often and easily into this state.

Enjoy your listening! 😃

Hi Eric,

Thank you for this great summary and popularization adapted to your universe that we understand.
Your podcast on flow has completely changed my vision of the world! Incredible, thanks again! I came across it after listening to the most recent one on the meaning of life, interesting for a refocusing and a more global reflection, while flow allows to better appreciate and see each detail of the daily life as a game and find pleasure in it.

Could you please share your book reports on the site? That would be great!
I'm off to read this good Mihaly. Good luck with the 52 episodes!

Hi Eric,
Just thanks for this podcast. I really liked your summary/analysis of this part of the book.
I find it interesting how language has an impact on people's culture and understanding of things. Like the word meaning here which in French loses a lot of "openness" and possibilities, a difference that we find between French and American culture.
The word meaning is not the only one to show how the vocabulary impacts the culture but the purpose of my comment was mainly to thank you and congratulate you for your work.

Looking forward to the next episodes, all the best to you

Hi! I had already heard about the flow in a sports report (https://youtu.be/X9DKo0apZN4), but also in the new disney Soul, I don't know if you have seen it, but I recommend it to you ;)
Thanks for your podcast, it made me want to read the book :)
See you and good luck,

Hello Eric,

First of all, thanks for this episode on flow!
It's a concept I've been passionate about for quite some time, and I personally first found it via video games (we're talking about a long time ago 😅).

Lots of good vibes ☀️

Hi Eric,
First of all, thank you for your podcasts, as always it's very interesting ;)
Let me introduce myself quickly, my name is Tom, I'm 22 years old and I'm finishing my studies very soon.
I'm writing to you to have your opinion on a particular subject: you already said several times that you were more introvert than extrovert (you used the comparison with Elio on this subject I think).
My question is this: What is your opinion on how introversion is perceived by people in society? And how do you deal with this introversion in your relationships?
I mean that extroversion is often valued, whether socially, at work,...
I am personally a very introverted person: except with my very close friends, my family and the people I know well, I speak very little in groups, without feeling any particular embarrassment (which would be more like shyness). Not surprisingly, I've already had a lot of direct or indirect reproaches about this, and it disturbs me a lot. I question myself, I realize that I have almost no friends, never had a long relationship and I feel like I am (too) different from the norm.

I feel like I can't connect with the few people I meet, because of my personality and often by choice (this is what "scares" me and has a rather perverse effect: I want to meet people but deep down I know I feel better alone, in the park with my bars or at home with a good book...)
So I ask myself another question: should I force myself to become more extroverted, or keep my personality and learn to accept it as it is?

Sorry for the length of this post, but I think the topic of introversion/extroversion can be super interesting to talk about in a podcast ;)

I thank you if you arrived here and wish you a great evening, and again thank you for your work, continue like that!

Hi Eric,

I have a little comment about your podcast for a detail :)
When you talk about meditation, we can see that you have a little interest in it! However, it is by no means a matter of "silencing the mind".
We are rather in the order of the observation of the mind, and in the acceptance.
It's a bit like what we feel during the effort or in a situation of discomfort and where we will take a step back on our sensations. So in a way, you certainly already practice it a little!
I hope you will be more interested in it. In any case, I hope you will because it fits well with your vision of personal development and your philosophy I think! Maybe this will lead to a next podcast?

Thanks for your work! Keep it up :)
